If you are a Bangladeshi student planning to study in the US, it’s important to know the different types of study visas available to you.

There are three types of F visas which are ideally USA student visas; they are as follows:

  • F-1 visas for full-time students
  • F-2 visas for dependents of F-1 visa holders
  • F-3 visas for ‘border commuters

The second type of student visa USA  is for international students who wish to pursue non-academic or vocational studies or training at a US institution.

There are three types of M visas:

  • M-1 visas for students engaging in vocational or non-academic studies.
  • M-2 visas for dependents of M-1 visa holders (as in F-2 visas).
  • M-3 visas for ‘border commuters’ as in F-3 visas, but for vocational or non-academic studies.

Finally, this third category of student visas for the USA is for foreign tourists taking part in cultural exchange programs in the country. Most J visa holders only stay in the country for a few months—perhaps one or two semesters. The J visa comes in two varieties:

  • J-1 visas for exchange students on a relevant exchange program.
  • J-2 visas for dependents of J-1 visa holders (as for F-2 visas).

Here are some steps you can expect in the admission decision process:

  1. Review process: The university’s admission office will review your application and all supporting documents.
  2. Notification: The university will notify you of its decision, usually via email or an online portal. Notification dates and methods vary by university.
  3. Decision types: You may receive one of the following types of admission decisions:
  4. Acceptance: You are offered admission to the university and can choose to attend.
  5. Waitlist: Your application is put on a waitlist, and the university may offer you admission if spots become available.
  6. Denial: Your application is not accepted, and you are not offered admission.
  7. Response: You will need to respond to the admission decision by the university’s deadline.       If you are accepted, you may need to submit a deposit to hold your spot in the program.

Financial Aid: If you have applied for financial aid, you will receive notification of your aid package along with your admission decision.

Please Note that Sticker Visa does not help with Financial Aid/Scholarships. If applicant is willing to avail such opportunities, it is to be completed independently by the applicant.

You can apply for a student (F or M) visa at a US Embassy or Consulate after getting the Form I-20 and signing up in SEVIS. You must have paid the SEVIS I-901 fee and show the I-20 form to the consular officer during your visa interview.
